2008 Update… The book is finished.. just have to finish editing and get it to a publisher…

Hello, My name is Dan Nickerson and I am the author of Alec’s Isle.

Let me give you a little background on Alec’s Isle.

Around 14 years ago I was vacationing in St. John USVI. I was there a week and did a lot of soul-searching. As many people do after a Vacation I came back refreshed and had a million ideas.

One of those ideas was to write a book about that combined elements of action, comedy, romance, intrigue and to set the majority of the book on an Island with one main character.

By the way my favorite authors in order, Crichton, Cussler, Grisham, Clancy and King..

So anyhow, I spit out 30 pages in a few weeks, and then I realized just how difficult writing can be..

So what did I do next.. I emailed Michael Crichton, and asked him if he had any advice.. I knew my book would make a Great Movie, and he was an expert, why not email him?

Believe it or not, he emailed me back within hours.. Remember, this was back in 93-94.

He told me I had to finish it.. It was unlikely I could pitch it and get it made into a Movie.

Well, I got very busy and didn’t get around to finishing the book.. Although everyone who read it begged me for more pages.. Then something interesting happened in 1999.

My Internet Business was growing so fast that we opened an office in LA, and I made a business contact with someone whose wife was a Hollywood Producer. One night I mentioned the book I had started to write, and told him the Story.

The next day my “draft” was being read by the Production Company and a few weeks later, I was pitching my story about a young man’s journey to and from this Caribbean Island to a Successful Hollywood Producer. Ha! Michael Crichton, what do you know.. (actually, the guy knows everything)

They loved it!.. Guess what happened next.. A few days later word got out that Tom Hanks was making the movie Castaway.. And my idea got shelved.

Well it’s 2006 and I’m dusting it off and putting it online. And I plan on using the power of the Internet, my subscriber base and a few freelance writers to finish the book. Depending on your, and their involvement I’ll give credit where credit is due.. This isn’t about me getting credit for writing a book, but for generating revenue for my subscribers. I’ll make no secret of the fact I had a lot of help writing this book, if I do in fact get help. I’m an idea guy.. Get it going and move onto the next one.

P.S. Inevitably people are going to read the first few chapters and think I’m ripping off the movie Lost or Castaway.. Well first off, what you are reading was written 14 years ago, and secondly the Island makes up about 1/3rd of the book. The rest of the book takes place in Puerto Rico and New York City.
